Design Manager – Hertfordshire

ACR are currently recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to join a leading main contractor, working on a range of large-scale design and build projects across England, predominantly based at their Head Office in St Albans.

As Design Manager, you will take responsibility for managing and delivering design information in line with agreed design programmes, ensuring technical compliance, coordination, and successful delivery from pre-construction through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage design documentation, drawings, and contract specifications
• Lead design coordination meetings with consultants and subcontract designers
• Ensure timely delivery of design information to client teams
• Manage and close out RFIs
• Coordinate planning and Building Control submissions
• Oversee design reviews and ensure technical compliance across all disciplines
• Support BREEAM compliance and sustainability objectives
• Provide design input during procurement and value engineering stages
• Collaborate with project management teams to ensure smooth delivery on site
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and internal teams

Requirements:

• Background in engineering or architecture, with extensive design management experience
• Strong understanding of the construction process and technical coordination
• Proven track record managing multidisciplinary design teams
• Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with document management systems
• Knowledge of health & safety and design compliance legislation
• Ability to lead meetings, manage deadlines, and work collaboratively across departments
